Mike is the author of more than 40 books on teaching, learning and education, including numerous bestsellers. He has written over 90 guides covering different aspects of classroom practice and his work has been translated into Dutch, Hebrew, Arabic and Chinese. Mike’s online teaching resources are some of the most popular of all time, having been viewed and downloaded more than 4 million times by teachers in over 180 countries and territories.
Mike works with schools, colleges, and governments in the UK and overseas. He provides high-quality training, school improvement services and consultancy on teaching and learning. He also works with businesses and charities who want to support teachers and learners, helping them to create bespoke online content.
Some of Mike’s past clients include TES, Barclays Bank, WWF, The Education Endowment Foundation, The Key for School Leaders and The Falkland Islands Government, as well as hundreds of schools and colleges. Through the TES Institute platform for teachers, Mike has designed, presented and produced six bestselling online courses.
Mike started his career as a teacher in central London before setting up Gershon Learning Limited in 2014. He was educated at the universities of York and London, gaining degrees in History and Sociology, as well as a PGCE from the Institute of Education.
Despite running a successful business supporting teachers, students and schools, Mike has long had a sense that there is not enough support for parents focussing on the nuts and bolts of learning. Having met and talked with many parents over the years, he came to the conclusion that, while there is lots of great support out there on parenting and the emotional and social aspects of child development, learning is often overlooked.
Yet, every parent Mike has ever spoken to, whether at parents’ evenings or at talks he has delivered at schools and conferences, has had a fundamental desire to help their children to learn.
